Biography
Sergey Volkov was born in February 1978 in Shchuchin, Belarus. His father, an army officer, served as deputy commander for political affairs, while his mother worked as a pediatrician. Sergey has an older brother. Their childhood was spent in Belarus and also in Germany, where the family moved due to his father's military service. As a child, Sergey enjoyed chess and various sports and collected stamps and model cars.
After finishing school, Sergey received a higher military aviation education and served as a military pilot. He later worked as an engineer at the company "Gazprom — Underground Gas Storage."
In March 1999, Sergey married Tatyana. Soon after, both became Jehovah's Witnesses: Tatyana in the same year, after finding in the Bible an answer to her long-standing question about the meaning of life; Sergey in 2002. Explaining what motivated him to become a Christian, he recalls: "I was convinced when I saw that the faith of these people is based on the Bible, and their words match their actions."
Tatyana is a qualified school psychologist, but she is currently not working. She enjoys growing flowers. The Volkov family loves camping, traveling, and spending time with friends. Their daughter works as a process engineer, and at the time of Sergey's arrest their son, had just finished school and was planning to enter a vocational college. The family lives in Shchelkovo, Moscow Region.
The Volkovs were subjected to a search of their home and interrogations in June 2026. During investigative actions, Sergey was threatened with the prospect that his entire family, including his minor son, would be taken into custody. Sergey was placed in a pretrial detention center, while Tatyana was placed under house arrest.
