Wave of Searches of Witnesses Expands to Budyonnovsk

In the morning of June 26, 2019, in Budyonnovsk (Stavropol Territory), searches were conducted in six homes of Witnesses. These intrusions of law enforcement officers are connected to a series of arrests in nearby Neftekumsk, where three people have been in jail more than seven months.

Investigators Continue Home Searches in the Stavropol Region

On the morning of July 9, 2019, in Nevinnomyssk (Stavropol Territory), special services searched the home of at least one Witness believer. According to unconfirmed information, during the special investigation, the security forces threw forbidden literature to the believer.

More Banned Publications Planted in Homes

In April 2019, in the city of Novosibirsk and in the resort settlement of Inozemtsevo, Stavropol territory, law enforcement officers planted officially banned books in Witnesses’ homes while conducting the search. The same tactic was often used by officials in 2016-2017, but since the Russian Supreme Court has ruled to ban and liquidate all of Jehovah’s Witnesses’ local religious organizations (LRO) in Russia, this practice almost stopped.

Arrests, Searches and Criminal Case in Stavropol

On 9 December 2018 in Neftekumsk, eight searches were conducted, three people were sent to a detention centre and one was put on the wanted list. The reason? ‘They refused to renounce their religious views’.

Mass Searches of Homes in Nevinnomyssk

On 21 November 2018, nine searches were conducted in the Stavropol Territory. Computers and other electronic devices were seized. Residents were taken for interrogation.
