The international community has unanimously condemned the ban on Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia. The charges against the Witnesses are based on the Federal List of Extremist Materials.

In Strasbourg at a meeting of the Committee of Ministers (the body supervising execution of ECHR judgments), the question of the persecution of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia was raised in the light of the claim filed by the Ministry of Justice in Russia’s Supreme Court.
It was illegal to suspend for 45 days the activity of the Local Religious Organisation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the City of Voronezh.
The text of the acquittal in the case of the Witnesses accused of “extremism”. Later, the appellate court returned the case for retrial.
