Honorable Court! Today I stand before you not as a criminal and not as the leader of some clandestine organization. I stand before you as an ordinary believer who acted in a Christian way — at someone's request, I shared Bible knowledge with him.
I have been charged, and my religious life is presented as extremist activity. However, if you look carefully at the case materials — the conclusions of linguistic experts, the testimony of witnesses for the defense, as well as the norms of the legislation of the Russian Federation — it is clear: extremism does not apply to me.
In the final statement, I would like to sum up and answer three questions: why did I end up here? what happened during all this time? and do I have any regrets?
But first, I want to thank those who stayed by my side, who attended the hearings; everyone who wrote letters. Very, very pleasant! It is always encouraging, and not just for me. Surprisingly, it encourages the censor, cellmates... That is really the case. I am very grateful for the letters and prayers! I am grateful to my dear brother, I think he worries much more than I do.
I want to thank the lawyers — they skillfully defended us, examined everything, delved deeply into the substance of the case, and were actively involved!
Your honor, I would also like to thank you personally for allowing hearings to be held in large courtrooms, for the open doors. For us, for my family and friends, the opportunity to be present at an open court hearing meant a great deal.
I also want to thank the prosecutor for pronouncing God’s name and our denomination’s name correctly, with respect for our position. This is appreciated.
