The Case of Kononov and Others in Uyar

Investigator of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant of Justice A. A. Tkachenko, initiates a criminal case against 4 people. Aflatun Safarov is suspected of organizing the activity of an extremist organization, Viktor Kononov is suspected of participating in its activity. Amaliya Malchugova and Tatyana Barakhtenko are charged with participating in the activity of the organization and involving others in it.

The Uyarskiy District Court imposed a preventive measure on 60-year-old Kononov and 62-year-old Safarov in the form of remand in custody. Investigator Tkachenko brought charges against Viktor Kononov.

Investigator Tkachenko has brought charges against 77-year-old Amaliya Malchugova and 69-year-old Tatyana Barakhtenko. The rulings against both Amaliya and Tatyana contain the same wording: “…She actively participated in the organization by studying materials… took part in instructional debates… provided her residential premises for holding in-person meetings of organization members.” Both women have signed a recognizance agreement.

Aflatun is held in a cell with four other inmates and sleeps on the top bunk. There is water, a refrigerator, a kettle, and a television in the room. Every day he is allowed a one-hour walk in the yard. He has respectful relationships with his cellmates and is the oldest among them. The believer has a copy of the New Testament. Aflatun needs treatment.

Viktor Kononov is in quarantine. There are six people in the cell where he is kept. Although the room has not been renovated in a long time, it is warm and has both hot and cold water. Viktor is allowed a one-hour walk every day. His blood pressure rises periodically. In addition, due to his history of tuberculosis and a severe case of COVID, Viktor developed pulmonary fibrosis and requires constant medical supervision and treatment.

A search is being conducted at the home of Aleksandr Murlin, 65. The man is taken to Investigator Tkachenko’s office for interrogation. He is then detained, with the following justification: “Eyewitnesses identify this person as the one who committed the crime.”

Investigator Tkachenko initiates a criminal case against Aleksandr and Zakhar Vakarev. According to the investigation, the men "engaged in educational discussions" together with other defendants in the case.

Ivan Starikov, Sergey Soroka, Aleksandr Murlin, as well as Aleksandr and Zakhar Vakarev are being prosecuted as defendants in a case involving participation in the activity of an extremist organization. The Vakarevs have signed a recognizance agreement.

The Krasnoyarsk Territory Court transfers Aleksandr Murlin and Sergey Soroka from the pretrial detention center to house arrest.

By decision of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Court, Ivan Starikov is to be released from the pretrial detention center and placed under house arrest.

Viktor Kononov regularly receives parcels and letters. He has a Bible in the Synodal Translation.
