The Tarasov Case in Kemerovo

Case History

In May 2026, the Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case against Kirill Tarasov from Kemerovo. He was accused of organizing the activities of an extremist organization. Early in the morning of the same day, law enforcement officers searched 17 believers. Law enforcement officers entered Tarasov’s home by breaking the window with a hammer. Kirill was detained, and the next day the court sent him to a pre-trial detention center.

    Kirill Tarasov is held in a solitary cell in a basement room. It is dry, there is a window, and cold water is available. He can take a shower once a week.

    Kirill suffers from asthma — he had an attack in the temporary detention facility, but conditions are better in the pretrial detention center and he has the necessary medication.

    Kirill is able to communicate with his family and friends through letters — in his first 2 weeks in custody, he received more than 40 letters, including some from other countries.
